Faqs
What type of food is served at Lotter Hunt Safaris?
At Lotter Hunt Safaris, we serve three full meals a day, along with snacks to keep you fueled throughout your adventure. You’ll enjoy authentic South African cuisine — and plenty of it!
Breakfast includes eggs, game sausage or links, fresh bread, tomatoes, and cheese.
Lunch is usually packed to go — think sandwiches, burgers, chips, fruit bars — and enjoyed out in the field so your hunt doesn’t get interrupted.
Dinner is a generous spread, often featuring your own harvested game (if requested), prepared in a variety of delicious ways. Expect steaks, potatoes, vegetables, dessert, and more.
We always have a selection of red and white wine, beer, mixed drinks, soft drinks, and bottled water available. If you have any dietary restrictions, just let us know ahead of time — we’re happy to accommodate.
What clothing should I pack for my safari?
When is the best time to hunt in Africa?
At Lotter Hunt Safaris, our prime hunting season runs from late February to mid-October. The most comfortable weather falls between May and early September during the cooler winter months.
While we do offer hunts year-round, keep in mind that late October through February can be quite hot. That said, all our rooms are air-conditioned to keep you cool and comfortable after a day in the bush.
Can I rent a rifle for my safari hunt?
Absolutely. In fact, most of our clients choose to rent rifles to avoid the hassle of international travel with firearms — especially when flying through places like London, where bringing a rifle can be difficult or restricted.
At Lotter Hunt Safaris, we offer a wide selection of well-maintained, scoped rifles in various calibers — from .22-250 up to .460 — to suit every hunting need.
Will my phone work in South Africa, and is there Wi-Fi at the lodge?
Yes most international mobile carriers work in South Africa, but it’s best to check with your provider before traveling to confirm coverage and roaming options.
We do have Wi-Fi available at the lodge, though like many remote areas in Africa, the connection can sometimes be spotty. Your phone should work in most areas, but we recommend turning off mobile data to avoid high roaming charges unless you’re on a plan that includes international coverage. Some providers offer daily international packages it’s worth setting that up before your trip.
